Helping energy leaders keep pace with a growing demand for their expertise

Center on Global Energy Policy

Challenge

The Center reached out with the goal of developing a new organizational structure that matched their rapid growth.

The Center on Global Energy Policy is an international leader in the energy sector, and their team is comprised of senior experts from government, academia, industry, and nongovernmental organizations. They develop evidence-based research and independent analyses to help address the world’s most challenging energy and climate problems, and as a result, are often called upon to advise on urgent matters.

As recent geopolitical issues arose, and as the need for independent research on the transition of the world’s energy system has increased, the demand for their services was simply too great for the current size of their team to carry out.

Approach

Our goal was to increase staffing capacity for new initiatives so they could launch quickly and thoughtfully.

The Center has been tremendously successful in its first decade, and we wanted to help them plan for growth over the next decade. We worked with the organization’s leadership, met with over thirty team members, and we completed an in-depth functional analysis of existing workstreams and the functions needed to launch new programs.

Outcome

Together, we navigated a moment of transition for the organization and built a solid plan for their future.

Through this process, we worked collaboratively to create a new organizational structure, developed a prioritized hiring plan for organizational growth over the next 18 months, and drafted job descriptions that aligned with the hiring priorities so they could quickly build their team.
